The JV volleyball team defeated both Spartanburg and Broome 2-0 yesterday. The varsity team also won last night defeating Spartanburg 25-22, 25-19 and Broome 23-25, 25-15, 25-11. Against Spartanburg, Anna Brockman, Fr., in hitting and serving, lead the JV team. Alysa Burke, So., and Jessica Sanders, Fr., led in setting while Anna McCarthy, So., added solid defense as the libero.
In the second match against Broome, the team overcame an 8-0 deficit to win the first game 25-23. The team won the 2nd game as well. This match saw strong serving from Alysa Burke,So., Bri Collins, Fr., and Brooke Waldrop, 8th. Sydney Dempsey, Fr.,added solid defense and a game-winning kill from the back row!
Against Spartanburg, the Varsity was led by the defensive efforts of Caroline Shin, Jr., and Hannah Fisher, So. Shin picked up 15 digs and 1 serving ace. Fisher had 11 digs and 1 serving ace. Kristen Dodge, Jr., led in three categories as she finished the match with 9 assists, 7 kills, and 5 aces. Lauren Ziegler, Sr., hit the ball well with 6 kills and 1 block. Foreign exchange student Fernanda Cota, Jr, came in at the end of the game to pick up her first assist, kill, and dig for Byrnes High!
In the match against Broome, Lauren Ziegler, Sr, dominated with 13 kills and 4 aces. Morgan Allen, Jr., set the ball well with 9 assists. Kristen Dodge, Jr., had another well rounded match with 9 assists, 6 kills, and 3 aces. Kirsten McCraw, So., hit the ball well on the outside with 6 kills. Caroline Shin, Jr., had another great match at libero picking up 14 digs and serving 1 ace. The varsity will travel to Nation Ford to scrimmage Nation Ford, York, Clover, Rock Hill, and Northwestern tomorrow. We will be hosting our annual Tournament Saturday.
