Rebels tame the Mavs

The Rebels continued their winning ways this season with a dominating 56-7 win over Mauldin. In the Region II 4-AAAA opener, the Rebs had a 42 point lead at the halftime. The Rebels would score frequently as Shuler Bentley led the team in passing. Bentley would finish the night with 240 yards in passing and four touchdowns. His targets on the scoring passes included Akia Booker, Tavin Richardson, and Marcus Mohrman.  Leading the Rebels on the ground was Shakeem Wharton. Wharton, a senior, finished the night with 146 yards rushing and one touchdown. Overall, the Rebels would accumulate 463 offensive yards.

Defensively, the Rebel Strike Force only the Mavericks to gain 122 yards of offense. Mauldin’s lone score would come late in the fourth quarter on a seven yard pass from Dre Massey. The Rebels now lead the overall series with Mavericks 26-1.

With the win Friday night, Byrnes improves to 4-2 on the season. On Oct. 7, the Rebels welcome the Riverside Warriors. Riverside, brings a 1-5 record to Nixon Field. Byrnes’ overall record against Riverside is 11-3.
