Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated at State this past weekend.

Alex is #1 in state in the 100 free and #2 in the 50 free. He is the first Byrnes swimmer to place first at the State Championship.

"It was awesome, it was great, it was kind of unexpected, becasue I was seated third". Alex Wood said. 

The boys's 200 Free Relay was a tenth of a second off from earning the school record, with Ben Koke, Janson Brown, Jake Turner, and Alex Wood as part of the relay. Aimee McVey had two amazing swims in the 100 Fly and 100 Back. She dropped a second in the 100 back. Janson Brown had two fast swims in the 50 free and 100 breast. Sydney Brandon had two of great swims in the 50 and 100 free, getting very close to her fastest times ever. The boy's 200 medley relay was seated 20th with their time and ended up placing 17th.

It was a wonderful way to end such a great season for Byrnes Swimming.

"The season was awesome, because I broke 8 records total," Alex Wood commented.

Alex Wood will be honored during halftime at the Dorman vs. Byrnes football game, Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.

Congratulations to Alex Wood who became the first swimmer in school history to win a state title at the state 4A swim meet. He won the 100-yard free style with a time of 47:33. If you see Alex, please congratulate him on his accomplishment.

Most of the swim team had a best time in at least one of their events for the region meet.

 

Byrnes Girls came in 5th beating Boiling Springs and Hillcrest. Byrnes Boys came in 6th beating Hillcrest.

Alex Wood and Aimee McVey made the All-Region Team.

Alex Wood came in first in both of his individual events 50 free and 100 free and will swim both events at the State Championship meet.

Aimee McVey placed 3rd in 100 fly and 4th in 100 back and will swim each at the State Championship meet.

Sydney Brandon and Janson Brown both finished in the top 10 in their events.

Other highlights for the team:

Hooper Stevens dropped 10 seconds in the 100 free.

Hayden Brown dropped 8 seconds in the 200 free.

Zach Johnson dropped 6 seconds in 100 fly.

Steven Duggar swam a 56.9 in his 100, making a consideration time for his only swim of the season.

Tyler Hargreaves dropped a sec in the 100 free.

The State Meet will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at USC starting at 5:05 p.m. Please come and cheer on the Byrnes swimmers.

Congratulations to an awesome swim meet as both the boys and girls swim teams beat Hillcrest!

The boys broke their 200 Medley Relay school record with a time of 1:51.86 as a team, including Zach Johnson, Janson Brown, Alex Wood, and Jake Turner.

Alex Wood broke his school record in the 500 Free, went under 5:00 with a time of 4:59.79 and won the event.

There were 7 Automatic State Qualifying times made:

Aimee McVey - 500 free, 100 Fly

Alex Wood - 500 Free, 50 Free

Janson Brown - 100 Breast

Sydney Brandon - 100 Free

Boys A 200 Free Relay

There were 4 Consideration State Qualifying times made:

Sydney Brandon - 100 Breast

Janson Brown - 100 Fly

Girls A 200 Free Relay

Boys A Medley Relay

There were 3 first places finishes, Alex Wood in the 50 free and 500 Free, and Janson Brown in the 100 breast.

There were 4 second places finishes, Boys A 200 Medley Relay, Aimee McVey - 100 Fly, Boys A 200 Free Relay, and Boys A 400 Free Relay.

Great performances:

Nick Spiack - 200 Free and all 3 relays,

Tricia Bacon - 200 free and breaking :30 in the 50 Free with a time of :29.99

Tyler Hargreaves - 50 Free and 100 Breast

Cherae Kinnunen - 200 Free dropped 10 sec. and a minute in the 500 Free

Remember to RSVP to Donna Brandon for the team dinner at Twin Lakes next Thursday.

Next meet is the Region Meet at Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville. Warm ups begin at 10:00 a.m. and the meet will start at 11:00 a.m. The coach will able to put four swimmers in each individual event and 3 relays per event. This will be the last meet of the season with all the swimmers. Only the swimmers who are going to State will be able to continue to practice after the Region Meet.

There will be off season training after State. More details for training will be posted soon.

The swim team had an awesome meet last night. Alex Wood broke 2 team records in the 200 Free (1:47.00 9/13/11)and 100 Butterfly (55.24 9/13/11) events, breaking the records held by Konrad Opuszko in 2009 and 2008. The team had 6 second place finishers at the meet. Other outstanding swimers include:
Tricia Bacon in the 200 free, dropping 10 seconds from last meet
Aimee McVey in the 200 IM, dropping 3 seconds from last meet
Sarah Finleyson dropped 4 seconds in the 50 Fly and 100 free

Georgia Wallwork came close to earning her state consideration time in the 100 Breast with .6 seconds away. Ben Koke was also close in the 50 Free event.Sydney Brandon was close to making the state qutomatic cut in 100 Free and 100 Breast.

Janson Brown placed 2nd in the 200 IM and 100 Breast events. Alex Green dropped 7 seconds in the 100 Breast.
Zach Johnson had a great swim in the 100 Back event, and that was the first time he swam in that event.

And Hooper Stevens dropped 4 seconds in his 100 Free swim. Jake Turner broke 26 seconds in his 50 free with a time of  25.8!!!!

The coaches are proud of times but also the sportsmanship and comradery the team is gaining. The swimmers are standing behind the blocks and cheering for each other. To the aarents - thank you so much for supporting the swimmers. The student athletes appreciate the support.

The next meet is next Thursday, Sep. 22, at Converse College against Dorman and Hillcrest starting at 6:00 p.m. It is also Senior Night.

On August 25, 2011 Alex Wood finished the 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.49. On August 31, 2011 Wood finished with a time of 5:24.28 in the freestyle.

On August 17, 2011, Byrnes hosted the Region II-4A prep swimming meet. Alex Wood completed the 100 yard freestyle in 0:47:86 and the 200 yard freestyle in 1:49:09, winning the events. The girls led the Byrnes Swim Team as Amiee McVey won the 200 yard freestyle (1:49:09) and 500 yard freestyle (5:38:05). Sydney Brannon finished first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:30:13, and the Byrnes Girls took 200 yard freestyle relay (1:57:95).

Congratulations to the Byrnes High Swim Team on their performance in the Region II 4A meet. The following swimmers performed well and improved their times: Tricia Bacon, Zach Johnson, Jordan Green, Matthew Powell, Paul Nederostek, Janson Brown, Nick Spiak, J.J. Smith, Rachel Smith, Hannah Cox, Jordan Seppala, Sydney Brandon. Jansen Brown and Elise McVey qualified for the State Swim Championships to be held October 9 at the USC Natatorium.

Byrnes vs Dorman

The Byrnes Swim Team had a close meet against Dorman and all swimmers improved their times. Janson Brown, a freshman, won the 50 Freestyle and qualified for state. Sydney Brandon placed second in the 50 Freestyle and she qualified for the state meet. Alex Wood also won the 100 Freestyle. Elise McVey came in second in the 500 Freestyle. Their next meet is the Region II 4A Meet on Saturday Sept. 25 at the Middle Tyger YMCA at 12:00 PM

 

Byrnes vs J.L. Mann/Riverside
In the last swim against J.L. Mann and Riverside, Byrnes had 4 individuals qualify for the state swim meet on October 9th. Alex Wood in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle. Janson Brown in the 100 Breaststroke. Sydney Brandon in the 50 Freestyle. Elise McVey in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle. Also, the boys and girls 200 Freestyle relays and the boys 200 medley relay's have also qualified for state. Our next meet is on September 21, against Dorman at Pine Street YMCA at 6:00pm.
