Byrnes Invitational

This weekend Byrnes Volleyball hosted 11 teams in the Byrnes Invitational.  The Varsity team swept their pool and went on to play in the championship match.  Byrnes lost the final match to Dorman but showed strong play throughout the day.

The first pool play match was versus Chapman.  The Lady Rebels started off a little slow, losing the first game but came back to win the match 2-1 (26-27, 25-18, 15-6).  Kristen Dodge, Jr, had a triple-double with 11 kills, 10 assists, and 11 digs.  Morgan Allen, Jr, led in assists with 14.  Lauren Ziegler, Sr, was second in kills with 7.  Caroline Shin, Jr, and Hannah Fisher, So, provided great defense with 14 and 10 digs. In the second match, Kristen Dodge, Jr, and Lauren Ziegler, Sr, led the way against Chesnee (25-16, 25-11).  Kristen had 5 aces, 7 kills, and 6 assists.  Lauren had 8 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks.  Morgan Allen, Jr, set the ball well with 6 assists.  Caroline Shin, Jr, played solid defense with 8 digs.

The chance for the Championship Bracket came in the third match against Northwestern.  The Lady Rebels wanted to leave nothing to chance about making the Championship Bracket so they beat Northwestern 2-0 (26-24, 25-22).  Caroline Shin, Jr, led in digs with 11.  Kirsten McCraw, So, also played great defense with 10 digs.  Morgan Allen, Jr, led in assists with 5.  Kristen Dodge, Jr, had 2 aces, 6 kills, and 3 blocks.

The Championship Bracket was single elimination.  Because of the point system, the Lady Rebels faced Northwestern for a second time beating them 2-0 (25-22, 25-22).  Lauren Ziegler, Sr, played a huge match at the net with 3 blocks.  Kristen Dodge, Jr, and Morgan Allen, Jr, both had 6 assists.  Caroline Shin, Jr, and Kirsten McCraw, So, provided the passing with 12 and 6 digs.

The win put the Lady Rebels in the Championship match versus Dorman.  The Rebels played a close first game 22-25 but lost the second 15-25.  Lauren Ziegler, Sr, and Kristen Dodge, Jr, both had 6 kills.  Morgan Allen, Jr, led in assists with 8.  Caroline Shin, Jr, led in digs with 13.

The Lady Rebels had a long day and did a great job.
The Varsity will have it's first regular season match on Thursday as they host Chapman at 5:30. JV's first match will be next Tuesday at Broome in a tri-match with Broome and Spartanburg.
